Bishop Wanjiru looses starehe seat

Housing Assistant Minister Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has lost her Starehe constituency seat through an order of the High Court.

The MP now becomes the seventh legislator to lose their parliamentary seat through an election petition after their challengers succeeded in the High Court.

Justice Kihara Kariuki ruled on Friday that Bishop Wanjiru was not validly elected in the exercise that was marred by violence and other election malpractises.

Former area MP Maina Kamanda filed the petition against Bishop Wanjiru who had floored him by 895 votes in the flawed 2007 General Election.

Six other MPs underwent a similar fate when the High Court nullified their election.

Mr Kamanda’s petition is a unique one since he had wanted to be declared a winner and his name substituted with that of Bishop Wanjiru. Mr Kamanda had emerged the winner with 49,306 votes while Bishop Wanjiru got 34,871, a difference of 14,435.

Mr Kamanda who disputed Bishop Wanjiru’s election filed the petition in February 2008 and urged the court to declare him the elected MP for Starehe.

He relied on Section 27(2) of the National Assembly and Presidential Elections Act. The section allows the Speaker to make changes should the court so declare.

However, Justice Kariuki declined to declare Mr Kamanda as the MP, saying the 2007 poll contained too many irregularities and as such only a by-election would be sufficient to settle the leadership dispute.

A Kenya Airways in-flight crew delivered a baby girl on board a flight that had just landed from Muscat, Oman in Nairobi late last week. Officials said that the mother and baby were "doing fine".

A well-trained Kenya Airways in-flight crew composed of Flight Purser Josephine Towett, flight attendants Oscar Heho, Mitchell Ongeso, Anthony Kuria and Muriithi, Captain Hamdan and first officer Muiruri were cheered by passengers after they successfully midwifed the delivery.

The crew lay the woman in the aisle in economy class while others held up a blanket to create a makeshift delivery room. Flight attendants were assisted by a KQ Nurse Juliana Maithya.

Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya Airways Chief Operating Officer Bram Stellar confirmed that the baby had been successfully delivered while the aircraft was on the ground at the Airport. The Captain and First Officer waited for the baby to be born before disembarking.

It was the first time that such an event occurred for the crew. Wrapped in a passenger's blanket, the four-kilogram baby was held by a crew member.

"It was already a packed flight from Muscat to Nairobi but passengers and crew were more than happy to make room for one extra person when the lady gave birth to a baby girl, whom we promptly named Zahra," he explained.

The crew laid the woman across a row of seats in economy class while others held up a blanket to create a makeshift delivery room. "Within 15 minutes the baby had been born. We are happy that the birth was normal and the mother and baby are fine," he concluded.

Veteran broadcaster Larry King has announced that he will be ending his nightly show on CNN in the autumn.

Over 25 years of the show, King, famous for wearing braces, has conducted more than 40,000 interviews.

Larry King Live recently made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running show with the same host in the same time slot.

The news comes at a time of falling ratings for the show. King, 76, said he would spend more time with his family.

His marriage to seventh wife Shawn Southwick had appeared to be on the point of breaking up earlier this year when King filed for divorce.

The couple have since reconciled their differences.

On his blog, King wrote that CNN had agreed to his request to wrap up the show in the autumn "giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids' little league games".

He said he would "still be a part of the CNN family" and planned to host special programmes on major national and international events.

"With this chapter closing I'm looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it's time to hang up my nightly suspenders (braces)," he concluded.

Over the course of his career, King has interviewed every US president since Gerald Ford. His most recent interviewees include Bill Gates and singer Lady Gaga.

However, his show has slipped behind those of rivals such as MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and Fox News's Sean Hannity in the ratings battle.

The news of King's decision to end his show comes only a week after New York Times media critic David Carr suggested CNN needed to find a worthy successor for him soon.

"As it is, Mr King has been left to dangle, battered by tabloid reports, sliding ratings and his own daily battle to anchor the show five days a week," he wrote.

"The more legendary the talent, the more delicate the endgame."

Earlier this month, there was speculation in the press that Britain's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan was in talks with CNN to replace King.

Let me tell you a quick story.
This week, a guy emailed me. He told me that he was fed up with trying to meet women, and he was going to go join a MONESTARY in order to get rid of his desires for women.

Combine this with the places that most guys go to meet women, and it’s no wonder that some guys just throw in the towel and give up.
When I first decided that I was going to get this area of my life called "women and dating" handled, I started out by going to a lot of bars and clubs.
My thinking was that this would be where all the hot young babes were.

As it turned out, I was right. At least, partly.
The more bars I went to, and the more women I met at these bars, the more I began to realize that the woman of my dreams probably wasn’t running around inside of one of them.

My experience has shown me that a lot of beautiful women go to trendy bars and clubs to get attention and have men buy them drinks.

To be fair, I have met a few really wonderful girls at bars and clubs, but for the most part this is really one of the WORST places to get started.

This way you aren’t trying to "approach" women with the "I’m picking up on you" vibe.

1) Yoga Classes. Yes, Yoga. Women LOVE yoga, and you’ll probably find a 2 or 3 to 1 ratio of women to men when you get there. And since everyone is in a relaxed, meditative state there’s no weird environmental pressures to get in the way.

2) Aerobics classes (especially the trendy ones like Tae-Bo, Spinning, etc.). If you can keep up, these are great places to meet above-average women. And they are great places to meet LOTS of them. Women love to be trendy, and there’s always a new trendy aerobics class coming out every few minutes.

If you don’t like the workouts, try the coffee shops and juice bars located adjacent to the gyms in your area. The women will be stopping in for refreshments after working out. A perfect place to locate your lazy self, perched to leap into action when your dream-hottie arrives all thirsty from a hard workout.

3) Art Shows. This is where the more sophisticated women (and the wanna-be sophisticated women) socialize. There is often wine and cheese, and all kinds of great places to start conversations. It helps to know something about art, which I don’t (maybe that’s why I don’t go to many art shows...).

4) Pottery Classes. Yes, I know. Probably not your first choice of what to do with spare time. But that’s the point. Most guys out there aren’t thinking this one either. Go check out a ceramics class and meet some cool, earthy women who are getting in touch with their primitive sides.

Larry King filed for divorce on Wednesday shortly before his seventh wife also sought to end the couple's nearly 13-year-old marriage. The 76-year-old host of CNN's "Larry King Live" filed hours before Shawn King filed her own petition. Both cited "irreconcilable differences."

The couple were married in a hospital room in 1997 three days before Larry King underwent surgery to clear a clogged blood vessel. They have two sons, ages 11 and 9. The petitions differ in that Larry King is seeking joint custody, while his 50-year-old wife wants physical custody.

Larry King is also asking a judge not to award his wife any spousal support and to invalidate an agreement in which he transferred property to her, court records show.

Shawn King's petition seeks spousal support from her husband, along with ownership of the couple's home in Beverly Hills, Calif., and two properties in Utah.

"His major concern is the welfare of his children," said Howard Rubenstein, a spokesman for Larry King, adding that the talk-show host would not comment further on the divorce.

King's nightly news and interview show has been a CNN mainstay for nearly 25 years. He has three children from previous relationships.

The couple started house-hunting in California shortly after their marriage and lived in Beverly Hills. He is a Los Angeles Dodgers season ticket-holder and announced the start of the team's home opener to fans Tuesday.

He then explained that he has just had a bad experience with one of my competitor. After listening to his story I totally sympathised with his plight. But it niggled me that some agents are giving all agents a really bad reputation, so I have decided to fight back and remind travellers around the world why using agents are the best choice.

1.Good agents are like your friends in the city of your destination. Imagine having someone who will help you to research and book a serviced apartment. Then they will also help you with free support and advice of this city. If you choose an agent who actually live and work in this city, then it will be like having your own personal concierge.

2.Agents worth their salt will help you to find the right apartments to fit your budget. Obviously, you need to be realistic as well, as London is a notoriously expensive destination. Imagine if you had a family of 4 on a budget of £250 per night for a two bedroom apartment and you wanted to be in central London. Where do you begin?
